How will I know whether or not the orchestral string instrument I've rented will be the correct size for my body?

Orchestral string instruments come in multiple sizes. After you rent a viola, violin, or cello, we will call you to ask what size instrument you need. It's important to pick the right size for your body. Viola and violin sizing depends on your arm length. Practicing Musician has created video lessons to teach you how to correctly measure your arm length and sizing charts to help you pick out the correct size viola or violin:

Cello is dependent on height and is easier to measure. A Practicing Musician cello sizing chart is coming soon. Until that time, the information on the following website is accurate:

How will I know whether or not the woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument I've rented will be the correct size for my body?

Woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments are essentially one size fits all. That being said, people with very small bodies may have trouble playing alto saxophone or trombone.

We suggest an aspiring alto saxophone player with a small body start on clarinet because clarinet is also a reed instrument. In most cases, a person can transition from clarinet to alto saxophone by age 10.

An aspiring trombone player with a small body will want to start on trumpet because trumpet is also a brass instrument. In most cases, a person can transition from trumpet to trombone by age 12.

When will I receive my instrument?

Your instrument will be shipped directly to your house, which typically takes 1-3 business days.

Will my instrument arrive with all the necessary accessories?

Our instruments are shipped ready-to-play. All additional accessories, cleaning and maintenance supplies will need to be purchased from another retailer. Each of our teacher's suggest their preferred accessories, cleaning and maintenance supplies in the chapter entitled "Picking Out Your Instrument", and we provide links to affordable options in the details tab below each video.

What happens if my instrument needs to be repaired?

Normal wear and tear maintenance and damage repairs that cost up to $250 per incident are covered in your monthly rental fee. When your instrument needs to be cleaned or repaired, please call (425) 861-8875 between 9-5pm PST or email info@harmonymusic.org to place a repair order. We will ship out a replacement instrument immediately so that you are never without an instrument. A shipping label will be included with the replacement so that you can ship the instrument that needs servicing back to our facility in Redmond, Washington - completely free of charge to you.

How do I reduce the chance that my instrument will require repairs that cost more than $250?

If you maintain and care for your instrument as each of our teacher's demonstrate in the video lessons in the chapter entitled "Getting To Know Your Instrument", it is unlikely that your instrument will require repairs that cost more than $250. Make sure to watch the lessons in that chapter as many times as necessary to fully understand appropriate cleaning and maintenance techniques.

What happens if my instrument is lost or damaged beyond repair?

It is unlikely that you will damage your instrument beyond repair if you maintain and care for your instrument as each of our teacher's demonstrate in the video lessons in the chapter entitled "Getting To Know Your Instrument".

If you do happen to damage your instrument beyond repair or lose it altogether, you will be responsible for the total cost of the instrument minus the monthly payments you have already completed. You can either pay the remaining balance outright or continue to pay the monthly rental fee until the total cost of the instrument has been covered.
